New version of Twitter worm “Mikeyy” targets celebrities

The worm is a modified version of “Mikeyy” or “StalkDaily”.

A worm that referencing celebrating is rapidly spreading across the Twitter. The worm hacks into Twitter profiles and automatically sends unauthorized Twitter status update to contacts from the hacked accounts.

Users who look at infected profiles are then automatically infected and unauthorized posts are automatically sent to their contacts.

The worm spreads through the Twitter Web programming error (cross-site scripting vulnerability). The worm only affects users of Internet Explorer browser.

How to prevent:
Patching browsers and blocking scripting.

Note: For those who have been infected, cleaning up their Twitter profiles and clearing out content they didn’t add themselves.
