Norton is a particularly troublesome program (at least it was for me. I've been using the free Microsoft Security Essentials for over a year now and it works great. detects intrusions right away, cleans them quickly and not all the overhead other commercial products have. I’ve been through all the “big name” antivirus softwares and as others have commented, they tend to invade your computer makings it slow and also pretty much impossible to uninstall.
