The Conficker A worm first surfaced in November 2008 and quickly infected thousands of business networks worldwide. Conficker malware authors subsequently released Conficker B. Conficker C appeared in March 2009. Well over 1 million Windows machines have been infected.
Reportedly, on April 1, 2009 the Conficker botnet may be activated. It’s possible nothing may happen. But if a machine or your network becomes infected, the free Sophos Conficker clean-up tool will take care of the problem. Download it here
Although there is uncertainty and hype surrounding Conficker, it presents a significant threat as it looks to take advantage of patch, network share and autoplay vulnerabilities. The latest variant can compromise peer-to-peer file sharing and includes a new domain generation algorithm increasing the potential Internet rendezvous points to 50,000 domains per day.
Eliminate those vulnerabilities now.
